Very rarely
do we find an organization that gives music lovers an opportunity to have a
holistic music experience. Usually, fans go to a club or concert, get their
music on and go home. Not so with Irie
Jam Media! This past weekend, fans were
treated to music in the Bronx, and a Fashion show in Queen’s using music we
know and love!
The IRIE weekend began on Friday at Club Mingles (4012 Boston Rd., Bronx) where the theme ‘Flashback Fridays’ was in full effect and where music fans were treated to a special set by Captain Collin Hines live from Jamaica.
Steering the musical ship, Collin opened with 80's Disco which included “Heart of Glass” by Blondie and moved on to the classic Jacob ‘Killer’ Miller’s “Once Upon a Time.” The set continued with Shinehead’s “Golden Touch” and reached a climax when chunes from Cham and Wayne Wonder “Joyride” and Tanya Stephens “Yuh Nuh Ready Fih Dis” which had the ladies singing the punch line! Classic! One couple commented that they hadn’t “heard these songs since my high school days” and it was refreshing to hear them again.
As a compliment to the Captain, Dubb Master Chris touched the wheels of steel and reminded us of why we love 90's music as much as we do. We were also reminded why he has earned the name Dubb Master as he dropped Dennis Brown’s “If You Want Me” which had hands and lighters in the air. Musical Murdah! Dubb also touched on popular 90’s riddims effectively putting us in a time warp that we don’t want to leave!
Incorporating the music we love i.e. Reggae and R&B, IRIE Fashion Rave
showcased the best in designer fashions from a Caribbean-Urban perspective,
while presenting fashion options for hair as well as accessories. This was a
compliment which resulted in designers (both Fashion and Hair) receiving orders
for product while enticing media for future portfolio spreads. The IRIE weekend began on Friday at Club Mingles (4012 Boston Rd., Bronx) where the theme ‘Flashback Fridays’ was in full effect and where music fans were treated to a special set by Captain Collin Hines live from Jamaica.

Hosted by Fluffy Miss Kitty, DJ Roy and Dubb Master Chris, 7 fashion houses presented Fall Ready to wear and couture designs that scored extra points because of their use of color. D’Marsh Couture in particular struck all the right notes with gowns that will make every head turn. Tantrik's swimwear collection also did the same especially for her combined bikini-dress outfits.
Within the
fashion show, music legend Philip Smart was honored (posthumously) with a
Lifetime Achievement Award and Eion Ashmore Saunders was honored as a Reggae
Soldier.
