Greetings!
With the pulse of the bass guitar giving us a warning at the
beginning of the chune, we know that Kaisha
Lee is about to do something outstanding with the Positive Journey Riddim,
and that is exactly what she does. She
is in sync musically and lyrically which is what makes her newest chune “Rise Above It” absolutely outstanding!
For all Reggae traditionalists, I have to tell you that this
is real Reggae; this is Roots Reggae where you feel like you’re eating some Yam
and banana and sweet potato seasoned with onion and garlic and thyme, and those
are just the very light basics! Singing
with brilliance in her voice, and an unwavering confidence, Kaisha Lee tells
her audience “you say / you’re a man / a Christian / well he say / he’s a King
/ a Rastaman / she say / she’s in sin / don’t need within / but when you rock
it and you lock it in the groove / what do these titles do / working on the pay
/ ask them where’s the raise / just for minimum wage / they said no / went home
and prayed / you’re child hungry today / take someone else’s save….” Mercy!
If you’re aim is to bun Babylon and all workers of
unfairness, this chune is for you to the point that, you will want to see
Kaisha perform this live. The song is
that serious and that good.
Musically, DahJah,
the producer, adds elements of voice-overs from great leaders past saying ‘yes
we can’ which is echoed by the voices of people in a crowd saying ‘yes we can!’ The producers attention to the detail of the
bass line reminds me of the bass line from Bob Marley’s chune “Sun is Shining.” The two do not sound the same, but they both
share the same seriousness. Kaboom!
Broadcasting (((LOUD))) and ready to be performed on all
stages around the world is Kaisha Lee
