Riddim Salut from Yaadcore

In Jamaica, reggae and dancehall are built on a set of foundation riddims: Tried-and-tested instrumental tracks which return time and again to soundtrack new songs and movements, connecting the current day’s artists and producers with the music’s deep roots.

On his latest mixtape, Riddim Salut Vol. 1, renowned Jamaican DJ/selector YAADCORE pays tribute to Jamaican riddim culture, blending exclusive dubplates from reggae music’s top names (Chronixx, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, Koffee) with classic riddims (Cuss Cuss, M16, Heavenless) from the reggae canon. The result is a one-of-a-kind mixtape that’s an illuminating listen for both reggae neophytes and experts alike.

ABOUT YAADCORE

As the creator of the popular Reggae Aroma mixtape series, founder of the global party Dubwise Jamaica, and the first person to play leading lights Chronixx and Protoje over the Jamaican airwaves, YAADCORE is one of the most prominent and influential DJs working in reggae today.

Having cemented his place as a pivotal tastemaker, he is now making his mark as a producer and vocalist with his first original recordings. His debut solo track, “Ready Now,” will be out May 3rd via Delicious Vinyl Island and 12 Yaad Records. Riddim Salut — that’s Salut, with no ‘E’ —  is the name of both his new mixtape series, and a new traveling party launching in 2019.

The Naomi Cowan Mixtape: Paradise Plum!

Selector Fiyah Yout and DJ Alpha Lion from Wrd Sound Pwr officially release Naomi Cowan’s Paradise Plum mixtape to rave reviews!

Making its debut on the Reggaeville.com website, the 9 track mix features the beauty and authenticity of Naomi’s voice.  Tracks selected for the project were done on purpose and with the intent of fans hearing the emerging vocalists talent.  Naomi covers classic songs and welcomes guests Romain Virgo (“Love of a Lifetime,” “Everything I Own”), Daviannah (“Jah Jah Children”) and Shanique Marie (“Far East Love”).

What makes the mix stand out are the choices of riddims which are sure to hold the attention of listeners.  As opposed to singing a full song on one riddim, some songs are changed midstream, giving a glimpse of the maturity of the young songstress.  Of this concept, Fiyah Yout says: “Naomi has definitely approached this project the right way.  Her performance on this mixtape is so complete, people will really take to her and will want to book her for a full stage show.  She is off to a solid start and is a rising super star.  Her voice is really that sweet.”

Fans are treated to a preview of upcoming singles “So Right” and “Manuscript Song” which were placed on classic Studio One riddims ‘Real Rock.’  The starlet will perform at Reggae Sumfest, 2018.

Selector Fiyah Yout and DJ Alpha Lion created the Wrd Sound Pwr mixtape series to showcase the sonic talents of upcoming and established artists.  Their mixes have a global following on SoundCloud.

HOTTT New Collaboration ►►► Wayne Marshall ft. Agent Sasco and Giomar – Stupid Money!

Greetings!

Let me put this chune into context before I go into the meat of this eblast.  There’s money, and then there’s stoooooooooopid money.  There’s Joe Public kind of money, then there’s Oprah, Carlos Slim Helu, and Bill Gates kind of money.  Good.  The brand new chune from Wayne Marshall caters to the latter … the people who are working for “Stupid Money!”

Produced by Damian Jr. Gong Marley, this new chune is the second single from Wayne’s album called Tru Colors, and features vocals from Wayne’s 7 year old son Giomar whose voice is heard singing the chorus.  Adding spice and grit to the production is Agent Sasco who DJ’s some tough lyrics.

Riding the piano keys, Wayne sing-jays:  “cheddar cheddar / genuine leather / from bully beef to lobster bruschetta / jet setta / shopping in Vienna / custom Louis V with the shades and the sweater / define the treasure / a dub beeper / I got better / focus / tru that mih better / now I’m a master / money getter / rich forever / have some new fans that look like Ke$ha ….”  Kaboom!

The chune has an international feel (and will still appeal to the Caribbean dancehall market) and ambition which resonates with listeners urging them to do more and aim higher for that ‘stupid money!’  Adding spice and grit, Agent Sasco DJ’s “me ah tell yuh bout stupid money / dunce funds / me ah talk Bill Gates – Donald Trump funds / nah talk bout lunch money / no lunch funds / we talking lump sums / trust funds for mih great, great Grandsons sons / stupid money / mih dollars have no sense / mih buy ah Benz dealership because Mommy wants a Benz….”  Double Kaboom!

If ‘strings’ is your thing, you will appreciate Gong Zilla’s sonic use and placement of stringed instruments which complements the prominent piano riff.  The way the strings are used, you hear the maturity, class and money in the chune … point well made!

Broadcasting in amplified sound and ready for you to rock while listening to the Radio, partying in the Club or riding with your Mixtape, catch Wayne Marshall featuring Agent Sasco and their chune “Stupid Money” at the link below.  If you like what you hear, tweet with the Superstar and his team @Wayne_Marshall | @damianmarley | @L3Magazine
