MAWGA K has released his debut single “Blessings Round Me” which is available
on all streaming platforms.
Many people
have been consumed by the pandemic and some of the hardships it has caused, but
Mawga K focuses his attention on the blessings that surround his life. The uplifting and inspirational track was self-penned
and aimed at being encouragement to others who must persevere in the midst of
tragedy and uncertainty.
Mawga’s
relationship with music spans more than 20 years. He joined Montreal’s Firesquad Sound and
created MontrealDancehall.com, an internationally acclaimed media house which
features the latest news and events surrounding Reggae and Dancehall. Mawga also serves the community with photography,
videography, web and graphic design.

produced by Indoe Rootz Records. The music
video was filmed and directed by MAWGA K throughout multiple locations in

Reggae legend and Icon, Richie Spice is getting ready to release a music video for his song "Red Hot" and the imagery in the music video is filled with poetic symbolism.
A cover of the Max Romeo song of the same name (full title "Valley of Jehoshaphat (Red Hot)"), Richie takes the approach of being the storyteller who gives a view of where humanity is. Directed by Samo (Jah9, Chronixx, Jesse Royal), the use of the horns as a focus is telling (think the Archangel Gabriel), just as the man carrying the door is symbolic (the door is a portal to go to another place). Samo also subtly uses a young lady at the side of the road holding a rose and picking off the roses petals. This is another way of asking 'where is love?'

Award winning Reggae artiste Kumar Bent answers the demands
of fans and will travel from Jamaica to Mauritius to perform at two festivals
in the month of May, and then again in Germany and Belgium in August.
On May 4th and May 11th respectively,

Waiting for Buju to release new music was a test of
patience.At times several (old) songs
resurfaced to trick us into believing they’re recent, but not so, until long

“Country for Sale,” in my opinion, is the observant Buju
meeting the heartfelt Buju, meeting the weeping Buju, meeting the optimistic
Buju.As Buju continues to enjoy his
return to his homeland, he can’t help but observe the status of the country which
pulls on his heartstrings knowing that people who are not Jamaican can come to
our island and ‘buy’ what they want.
Beginning with a drum pattern that resembles what we see
soldiers march to when putting on a military display, and with horns, bass and
riddim guitar in sync, the call to action is put out for one and all to hear
and act on.Buju laments “country for
sale / apply within / now could they tell me what ah gwaan / I hear dem sell
off everything / name your price / if the bargain is right / oh yeah / make the

VP Records, the world’s largest reggae label, continues the yearlong celebration of its 40th anniversary announcing today the launch of the first phase of The Reggae Trail, an interactive map of locations in New York City that helped make the music genre an integral part of life in the city over the past five decades. “The first phase of the project, launches in conjunction with Record Store Day 2019, includes New York area reggae and Caribbean record stores with significant in-house record labels,” said Carter Van Pelt, VP Records’ Director of Catalog Development. “These include several dozen initial locations, chosen from literally hundreds.” The Trail will grow to include recording studios, performance spaces, and also identify individuals who nurtured the growth of reggae, a globally influential genre from Jamaica recognized recently by UNESCO as a cultural heritage asset. Virtual visitors to the website will see how the growth of reggae mirrored the migration patterns of Jamaican and other Caribbean immigrant communities in the city. On April 13, Record Store Day attendees at the VP Records location in Queens, NY, will receive a printed version, free with purchase. “The idea began ten years ago when I pinned a set of locations in Google Maps of the New York area addresses I found on vinyl records,” said Van Pelt. “I didn’t initially take it beyond several dozen locations, but I could see the potential. Richard Lue, VP Records’ Director of Business Development, had a similar concept that showcased the role of VP Records in the history of reggae in New York. The Reggae Trail is a combination of these ideas.”

The Trail’s first phase highlights top record stores that brought the music to the people starting in the early 1960s. One of these is VP Records, which moved from Kingston, Jamaica, to Brooklyn and eventually Jamaica Queens in the late 1970s, becoming a major distributor and label in the global spread of reggae. After 40 years, VP Records’ flagship retail space is one of the oldest continuously operated records stores in the Northeast. Other locations of note on the Reggae Trail include Brooklyn’s former Super Power Records, Jah Life, and Coxson’s Music City; Wackie’s House Of Music in the Bronx, and Brooklyn’s 50-year old African Record Centre (the oldest of the group still in operation). Users can click on shop names and obtain a brief history, which includes everything from when it opened to classic productions that emanated from there. Reggae singer Denroy Morgan has come full circle. He started out as a solo singer scoring a huge pop hit, “I’ll Do Anything For You”, in 1981, before dedicating his life to pushing the efforts of his children, Morgan Heritage and LMS, to international fame. Now, he has returned to the music industry, to push the careers of African reggae singers, young men who he says are members of his “extended spiritual family.” “God is showing me a balance. I am an African born in Jamaica, who spent a portion of my life in the US, my kids were born in the US and spent their developing years in Jamaica, growing and understanding the energy, and bussing with the Jamaican energy. Now, my kids are on a pioneering mission in Africa, they are the next generation of pioneers, and I am doing my part to unearth talent in Africa, and to bring their music to the Jamaica and the world,” Morgan said.
Recently, Morgan resurrected his music career, returning to the stage with his band, the Black Eagles, and he also sought out recording talent from the worlds treasure chest known as Africa. He spent several months recording an EP entitled ‘Missing You,’ recording tracks with artistes such as Nyasha David of Zimbabwe, Latitude of South Africa, Vagavybz of Rwanda, Q-Nel of Ghana, and Bravoo of Kenya. “These young men are my sons of the outer circle, the children of the outer circle, my spirit family, and they are incredibly talented and I have the blueprint to introduce them to the world,” he said.
Morgan is the father of 30 children, 15 of whom he shares with Hyacinth Morgan, affectionately called ‘Emo’. He has been able to use the sheer force of his presence and his charisma to introduce new artistes to the world. He did it first with Morgan Heritage, a reggae band formed in 1994 by five of his children namely Peter “Peetah” Morgan, Una Morgan, Roy “Gramps” Morgan, Nakhamyah “Lukes” Morgan, and Memmalatel “Mr. Mojo” Morgan. Morgan Heritage have toured internationally and released a number of reggae albums including the 2015 Grammy Award winning Strictly Roots. He also enjoyed success with the group LMS, which included his son Laza “One By One” Morgan who has had some of his own hit records as well. Morgan is confident he can do it again.

With much anticipation, Best of the Best Music Concert (BOTB) has
made their first announcement for their 13th annual staging. The premiere
Caribbean summer concert returns to Bayfront Park, in Miami Florida. The
promoters of Best of the Best Concert are pleased to announce a cast of some of Reggae / Dancehall and Soca most electrifying artists for this year staging. Set
to be held on Sunday May 26th, 2019 organizers have put together a
historic line up paying tribute to 90s dancehall.
“Every year we look to celebrate Caribbean
music and this year is no different. We decided to carve out an era, which so
many of us love and reminisce on all the time. This era was ground breaking for
dancehall and reggae music in many ways and that is the 90s era. We had some of
our biggest artist in dancehall during the 90s era many of them still reign
today. Therefore, we decided to pay homage to 90s dancehall, with some of the
hit makers of them time. Not to mention for the first time in America The
Emperor Shabba Ranks and Don DaDa Super Cat will be sharing the same stage in

As one of the premier concerts for dancehall and reggae music
outside of Jamaica, and celebrating their 13th anniversary, on Monday March
25th Best of the Best Music Concert made their first artist line up
announcement. The lineup reflects a 90s theme with some of the newest
sensation in dancehall like Noah Powa who had a stellar 2018. Noah Powa, who
for many is known as a selector has embarked on a musical career, which is
garnering a new fanbase with his relatable hits like, ‘Keep the Same Energy’,
‘Feel it’ and his recent collaboration with Grammy Award winner Shaggy ‘Money
Up’. Performing on the Best of the Best
stage as an artist for the first time Noah Powa is definitely pleased with his
career and acknowledgement by the promoters and fans. “I have received a tremendous outpour of love and excitement from my

Christopher Martin’s video for “Life” premiered today on Billboard! The focus single from his
upcoming album Then and Now, out May 3rd, is an up-tempo, feel good song about not taking life for granted. The single was released on Friday, March 15th and is available on all streaming platforms.
Directed by Dameon Gayle, the video starts with flashbacks to Chris’s childhood and playing soccer, then fast-forwards to now, of him at a pool hall with friends, enjoying and cherishing the moment. The video also has a cameo appearance of Reggae super star Busy Signal.
Produced by Omar Anthoneil Samuels and Cory William Stoneman, and written by Christopher Martin, Omar Samuels and Cory Stoneham, the song follows other album singles “Bun Fi Bun,” “Can’t Dweet Again” and “Come Back” which has over 1 million views on YouTube.

It is no secret that Sizzla Kalonji has a deep affection for Africa. If you listen to some of his interviews, you’ll hear the artist talk about his respect for the land, for the people, for Africa’s wealth. It should come as no surprise that Sizzla chose to work with performing artist Born Afrikan on a new track entitled “Partners in Crime.”
Born Afrikan was born in Malawi but made South Africa his home. He began singing as a toddler in church, and his talent nurtured by his family. Fast forward to today, and we have the true Roots single with Sizzla.

Reggae super star Gyptian will perform at legendary music
venue BB Kings in New York on January 24th, 2018 as a part of Grammy
Week. He will be joined by rising
sensation Arita for an exclusive engagement in the heart of the City that
doesn’t sleep!
Produced by Tempo Television Networks, the one night
engagement will feature performances of Gyptian’s newest singles “Closer” and
“Leave You Alone” which come from his EP due to be released later this month,
and introduces audiences to Arita’s voice who may not already be familiar with
her.

Gyptian, whose catalog includes cross over hit singles “Hold
Yuh,” Nah Let Go” and “Beautiful Lady” is an attraction for industry executives
who will be in New York for the Grammy festivities, namely, the marking of the
award shows 60th anniversary.
