Tears For Fears 1985 Meets Japanese Breakfast 2019!

When good music is good, it's great and there is no time limit to when fans can and will enjoy.  In the case of award winning Pop group Tears for Fears, their music is no exception.  My friends at Giant Step shared some sweet information that original TFF fans will love ... the classic "Head Over Heels" song has been re-released!

Today, W Records, an imprint from W Hotels Worldwide, has released a cover of Tears for Fears’ “Head Over Heels,” by Japanese Breakfast (Michelle Zauner, a Dead Oceans recording artist). “Japanese Breakfast has recorded a beautiful, ethereal reimagining of ‘Head Over Heels’,” said Curt Smith co-founder of Tears For Fears.

https://wrecords.lnk.to/japanesebreakfastLast month, Zauner released the first of her two singles for W Records, an original song titled “Essentially.” “‘Essentially’ is a spacey, yet danceable thumper that finds Zauner demanding the kind of love that makes everything—and everyone—else seem trivial by comparison, like looking down on a crowd from a great height,” said Paste Magazine. Both tracks were recorded in the W Sound Suite at W Bali - Seminyak. Fans recently enjoyed a Japanese Breakfast performance at W Taipei on May 25th.

W Records will be reaching beyond music to support a cause that’s important to both W Hotels and the artist. A portion of the proceeds from the streaming of both Japanese Breakfast tracks will benefit the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

Japanese Breakfast joins fellow W Records performers Amber Mark, Perfume Genius and Roosevelt, rounding out the inaugural class of W Records.

Sizzla Kalonji Chooses Born Afrikan for "Partners In Crime!"

It is no secret that Sizzla Kalonji has a deep affection for Africa. If you listen to some of his interviews, you’ll hear the artist talk about his respect for the land, for the people, for Africa’s wealth.  It should come as no surprise that Sizzla chose to work with performing artist Born Afrikan on a new track entitled “Partners in Crime.”

Born Afrikan was born in Malawi but made South Africa his home.  He began singing as a toddler in church, and his talent nurtured by his family. Fast forward to today, and we have the true Roots single with Sizzla.

Alongside a wicked bass line that runs the chune, Born Afrikan sings:  “they came to say they will help us / all they do is abuse us / they buy expensive cars / spend our money and build big mansions / for sure the time is coming / when my Father will judge everyone / when their train is going to clash / and all the wicked / dem ago perish / cause them ah partners in crime….”

For those of you who like roots music, this chune is for you … and for those who want to hear the classic Sizzla voice, this chune is definitely for you!

Europe – UK – Africa – World Wide: Artist Introduction to Humility!

Humility
I know you hear a lot of new music from artists everyday who want you to support them by playing their music via YouTube or your playlist, and really that’s a compliment to you and your taste!

Performing artist Humility, managed by Marlon of City Rock Entertainment, is an artist I want you to take a look at – a serious look.

Taking his voice and the art of making good music seriously, Humility purposely makes music that is uplifting; he shares the social issue at hand, and sings about a solution to the issue that we face.  Because of this, fans are growing on the Humility movement, and I want you to grow on this movement too!

As an introduction, Humility and Marlon passed by to deliver their single “Dried Up” which is a song about a man whose love for his woman has dried up.  The artist sings:  “mih think ah likkle / mih drink ah likkle / nah try fix the impossible / and fih ah reason everything happen too / me have dem broken wings yah fih you / cause you’re the fallen angel / yuh nah guh get nuh more water from the same well / I won’t get trapped / by yuh same spell / cause this love is dried up ….”  K-A-B-O-O-M!

There are a growing number of men who have men hurt by women, and Humility is humble enough to share that story in the chune “Dried Up.”

Musically you will appreciate the crossover appeal.  Also, you can deal directly with the artist and management with your feedback via email:  umility@gmail.com | cityrockentertainment@gmail.com.

MaddSpider Productions Starts 2015 in a Sunshine State!

MaddSpider Productions begins 2015 with the release of their new riddim, Sunshine State which features performances from established Dancehall artists including a surprise feature from the hit duo Born Jamericans – Notch (Horman Howell) and Edley Shine (Edley Payne).

Purposely playing on the expression Sunshine State, both Jermaine ‘Froggy’ Lawrence and Ashanti ‘Taranchyla’ Reid named the riddim to give light to the fact that there are several positives to Dancehall despite some of the negatives we hear in the news.  They also pay homage to the state they live in, Florida, which is often referred to as the Sunshine State.  “Coming from Florida, we get a lot of sunshine and a lot of energy from the huge Caribbean population here.  We also have a lot of talent that is based here, so calling the riddim Sunshine State made sense because it’s everything we are!”

The 12 track riddim compilation features performances from Delly Ranx, T.O.K., Ce’Cile, Wayne Wonder and more and was recorded in Orlando, Florida and in Kingston, Jamaica.  Using modern music elements and borrowing slightly from the EDM genre, the riddim stands out as its BPM is at 78 which is very unusual for productions today.  Most fall in the 90 to 100 BPM range.  “Slowing down the riddim was important to us because it allows each artists performance to resonate with listeners.  When the BPM is slower, the vocals are more clear” said Froggy MaddSquad, one half of Madd Spider Productions.

Dancehall’s badgyal, Ce’Cile recorded the song “It’s Yours” on the riddim and said “the moment I finished recording my song, I told my manager and Froggy that this is going to be a hit for me.  They agree and so do a few trusted DJs I’ve allowed to hear it!”

Making its debut via ZJ Liquid on Zip FM, the feedback was immediate and good.  “The listeners like the riddim and like that it stands out from all the other riddims being produced.  It’s Dancehall and it’s crossover so it works for everyone.”

The Sunshine State Riddim was released on iTunes on February 10th, 2015 via this link:  https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/sunshine-state-riddim/id958343810

Vibes and Ting ►►► Busy Signal – Here & Now!

In 1989, Luther Vandross (rest in peace), teamed with David L. Elliot and Terry Steele, and created history with the song “Here and Now.”  That song peaked on the Billboard top 100 chart, and helped to solidify Luther as the man with the golden voice, and the right lyrics whose music would be played forever.  Busy Signal, has now affirmed his placement in that ranking with the release of his song with the same name “Here and Now.”

Making the song exceptional with a Caribbean twist (as only Busy Signal can), the artist recreates lyrics that are meaningful when he sings:  mih gyal me have you inna mih arms yuh feel so warm just like a comforter / nuh worry bout yuh bread mih gyal because yuh know it dun butta / telling yuh straight I’m not like some bwoy wah make dem tongue stutter / and the least likkle ting dem box yuh dung and tool dem run go fah….”  He goes on to reinforce confidence in his girl, and reassure her that she is #1 and he desires no other.  These are the lyrics that every woman needs from her man!

Musically, you will appreciate the easy juggling between the bass line, top hat and synthesizer which act as the perfect ‘bed’ for Busy to lay his lyrical ‘comforter.’  Whether you’re playing on the radio, for a wedding, a nice Sunday drive in the country, or as part of a mixtape, you cannot go wrong with this chune as a feature.

Broadcasting in amplified sound, and ready to infect the world with its beautiful vibration is Busy Signal and the chune “Here and Now” at the links below!

HOTTT New Medley from the HOTTT-ED ►►► Busy Signal – All In One!

Greetings!

Denzel Washington is one of the best Actors and this is confirmed by his fans, and the academy who have awarded him countless accolades.  Mr. Washington will tell you that even though he’s won awards, he still trains with his acting coach, and he takes nothing for granted.  Busy Signal is the same with his craft.

As much as Busy has hit chune upon hit chune under his belt, he still hustles, practices, rehearses and goes hard as if he has nothing at all.  HOTTT-ED!  Busy’s newest release, called “All in One” is the type of medley / chune that once again, sets him ahead because of its tenacity.  You can hear the ‘growl’ in Busy’s voice which suggests that he is going to take what is his, which is the #1 spot.

Musically, we go from Mtume’s “Juicy,” to Dr. Dre’s “Still” to “Next Episode” to Mobb Deep’s “Quiet Storm” to Nas’s “Hate Me Now” and there’s more!  In total, the medley runs 5:59 and at no point will your finger be tempted to hit the ‘next’ button!  Kaboom!

If you’re a lyricist who is hooked on Busy’s prowess, believe me when I tell you, he will not, and he does not disappoint!  References to his hit chune Bumaye as well as artist Rihanna, Bounty Killer and Richie Spice are just too HOTTT, not to mention Turf Music dropping in the DMX “Ruff Riders Anthem” reference and Black Rob’s “Like Whoa!”  Musical Murdah!  Click the links below for the download, and hail the artist on Twitter >>> @busysignal_turf!

Heads Up! Exclusive Preview from Larger Than Life Records – Going Home Riddim!

Greetings!

I don’t mean to be a tease, but today is going to be the exception to my rule!

Tosh and Trees, and the team at Larger Than Life Records alongside Dynasty Records have put together an incredible One Drop riddim called the Going Home Riddim.  Using a sweet swing and bounce vibe, the record label executives (Tosh and Trees) designed the riddim to make people skank, and skank they do.

Leading the riddim run is Chino McGregor with the chune “Larger Than Life,” Busy Signal and Exco Levi tag team with the chune “Wicked Evil Man,” Gappy Ranks comes in with “Free My Chains” and Bobby Hustle completes the package with “The Hunted.”  The entire riddim will be available on iTunes and all digital retail formats on November 5th, 2013, but until we get there, let me just say that this is the type of riddim that excites the industry.  This is the kind of riddim that will make people want to go to a session (dance) and skank on their good foot.  This is ital music at its best!

Here’s where the tease comes in, catch the riddim mix preview courtesy of Jahson of Solomonic Sounds at this link >>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZ4hmFQTmDY

Best of the Best Concert 2013 ft. Chronixx - Judgement!

Greetings!

As it is with the Father, so shall it be with the son.  The message began with the artist Chronicle (the Father) and now Chronixx (the son) continues, arming himself with “Judgment!”

Produced by Liv Up Records, the Asphalt Riddim hears Chronixx’s lyrics hit hard as he sings “Papa him ah ball / say no money inna wallet / Mama she ah ball / say no money print pon her forehead / cousin him ah cry / say him and poverty ah married / him nah eat nuh food from last week….”  All of this from the voice of a young man just reaching 20 – odd.

So why the excitement?!  Well, when was the last time a young artist took the bulls by the horns so seriously to sing about the reality of the youth today?

Performing this year at Best of the Best Concert in Miami is Chronixx, backed by the Zinc Fence Band!  To understand why so many people are excited about the artist and his music, and make sure you reach from early.  Check the flyers below for details!

The Letter Riddim ft. Cali P + Nickeisha Barnes + Cen’C Love + Progress + More!

Reggae music has just experienced another amazing release, and this time it comes from Saunjay ‘Triple Ace’ Kerr also known as J’Island Records.  The name of the riddim is The Letter Riddim and I know it’s one you are going to LOVE!

Beginning with the riddim, it’s mellow, easy groove; sweet.  Saunjay uses the bass line as a bed, and tops the bed with harps and synthesizers.  For accents, he uses drums which compliment the overall production.

Vocally, Cali P tells us why we love “Reggae Music” so much by singing:  “Ease off the pressure mek we feel likkle betta / Reggae music have the vibes / ease off the pressure mek we feel likkle betta / spread the joy and hold a vibes / Reggae music / is playing / what a wonderful feeling ….”

Combine the riddim and Cali P’s lyrics and we have a hit riddim for radio, iTunes and mixtapes!  Supporting the lead single from Cali P (from Guadeloupe / Switzerland), is Nikki Burt (from Jamaica), Nickeisha Barnes (from Jamaica), Ultimate Shines (from Jamaica), Cen’C Love (from Jamaica), Geoffrey Star (from Jamaica), I-Razor (from Austria), Miriam Simone (from Suriname / Holland), Cateyes (from the US), Progress (from the US), Phenomden (from Switzerland), Collis Duranty (from Trinidad & Tobago), Chai (from Jamaica), Cescojam (from Italy).

This is truly an international collaboration in the name of Reggae Music!
