Money – Money – M-O-N-E-Y!

Some say money is the root of all evil, but in the case of the song “Blurred Lines,” money is the root of the court case brought against Pharrell Williams, Robin Thicke and T.I., as the Gaye family (son and daughter of Marvin Gaye Frankie and Nona)’s attorney’s reveal just how much money the single made … drum roll please … $16,675,690!

My good friends at THR have confirmed via court records that both the plaintiffs and defendants agree that the song made that much money.  So who got what?

$5,658,214 went to Robin Thicke, $5,153,457 went to Williams and $704,774 went to T.I.  Where did the rest go?  To the record label.

Not only are the Gaye family seeking a portion of the money made from song sales, they want a portion of the tour revenue which they estimate to be $11Million.

Get that Money!

HOTTT-ED New Music ►►► Busy Signal – Set Up!

Greetings!

There is nothing sweeter to a woman that hearing soul music from Marvin Gaye while her Lover sets the mood for a romantic evening.  In music, there’s nothing sweeter than hearing Busy Signal flip lyrics from Marvin Gaye in a brand new chune called “Set Up!”

Building on the famous melody from Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing,” Busy and his team at Turf Music remix the words which hears the artist sing for the ladies “baby / lock down from night till ah morning / still your body’s calling / for some loving / inna ah dih summa gyal yuh hotta dan dat / cute likkle diva with the style dem lock / and if a bounce gyal it fatta dan dat / sexy pretty girls whether brown or black / brace hard ….”

After this point, Busy does what we know him to do best which is to turn up the lyrics to overdrive.  This chune will lock every part of the globe for the summer – guaranteed!  Don’t sleep, blink or pause on this HOTTT-ED chune!

Check out the chune at the video link below or click HERE!

Throwback Thursday – Aaliyah – Got to Give it Up

Aaliyah was the Princess and the world was her Castle.  The most beloved R&B star left this earth too soon, but not before she rocked our boat in song – literally.

Aaliyah’s cover of Marvin Gaye’s classic, “Got to Give it Up” was a classic in its own right, and featured the rap vocals of Slick Rick.  Taken from her album One in a Million which peaked at #2 on the Billboard Top R&B / Hip Hop Albums for 1997 and sold millions of copies worldwide.  Billboard named the album as one of the top 100 for the 90’s and today I’m naming it and the song “Got to Give it Up” as my Throwback of the week!

Originally written by Marvin Gaye, and produced by Vincent "V.H." Herbert & Craig King, the song is ripe with 1970’s funk and a super phattt synthesizer riff adding extra juice to this already saucy track.  Catch the Throwback replay.  P.S.  You have to love Marvin Gaye’s appearance in the video too! >>>
