CBS Wants Your Hip Hop, Pop, Rock and Alternative Music!

Here’s another GREAT opportunity coming from my friends at Music XRay (http://www.musicxray.com/) that I think, no, I know you should take advantage of!

CBS is looking for music for television broadcasts (50 to 100 songs), and as an independent artist, you might have what they’re looking for.  If your genres are Pop, Rock, Alternative, Hip Hop, Rap or Jazz, you might have the sound they want and are willing to pay for.

The NAACP Honors marie-claire

On Saturday 15^th March 2014, the Williamsbridge branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will, as part of their Women’s History Month celebration, honour Dominica-born singer marie-claire, in recognition and celebration of her extraordinary accomplishments and service to the community.

“marie-claire is a singer without limitation who is accomplished in several genres and we say bravo to her and welcome her into the group of honorees,” Says event host and President of the Westbridge NAACP, Julian McDavid.

A regular act at New York jazz hot spots Farafina Café and Lounge as well as the Metropolitan Room; marie-claire is oftentimes backed by her own jazz quartet.  She has performed throughout the New York City area including representing the borough of the Bronx as a finalist at the 2013 Battle of the Boroughs and performing the American national anthem at a New York Nets vs. Detroit Pistons basketball game in the newly built Barclays centre in Brooklyn.  In January 2014, famed American composer John Harbison gifted marie-claire with 4 unique compositions to which she is currently penning lyrics. The Pulitzer Prize award-winning Harbison said he was “priviledged” to compose music for marie-claire who he described as “an abundantly talented singer” possessing “a genuine contralto voice and magnetic stage presence.”

marie-claire moved from Dominica to the Bronx at age 4 and returned to the Nature Isle in to explore her familial and musical roots. While on island she hosted and produced a video countown show and spearheaded and co-organized the Year of the Child Concert series. She has performed at several festivals and concerts throughout the region including Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival (Jamaica), Love is all we Need Concert (Antigua), Jazz on the Green (St. Vincent) and le Voces de Jazz Festival (Columbia).

Prior to making her operatic debut at Carnegie Hall, marie-claire was classically trained at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome and still continues to perfect her vocal instrument.  She has to-date released an EP entitled dreamland which features the operatic versions of well-known reggae songs “dreamland” and “rasta man chant”  (featuring Spragga Benz), as well as “constellation” as song penned for her by famous Jamaican singer/songwriter Bob Andy.

HOTTT! New! Crossover Reggae to R&B ►►► Raging Fyah – First Love!

Greetings! 

If you are a lover of music who appreciates mixed formats such as R&B, Jazz and Reggae, then this brand new chune from Raging Fyah will not only make you happy, it will make you VERY happy! 

Performing since 2006, the band Raging Fyah has come to be known as one of the best for vocals and song composition, especially the recent hit “World Crisis” which was recorded in 2010.  That chune established the group as being unafraid to make social commentary on the state of the world; that was 2010.  Today in 2013, the band releases the love song “First Love” which marks another hit record for the band. 

Using a smooth groove that sounds R&B, Raging Fyah sings:  “I’ve been there before, I’ve seen many doors / close and now / it’s like I walked out of heaven / Jah knows how I’m feeling / you didn’t want me to go now / the tears slowly flowed / and now that I’m searching / It’s you that I’m seeking / I have to find my way / back to my first Love….”  Musical Murdah! 

So beautiful is this chune, you can easily mix this with Anita Baker or The Commodores, or even Robert Glasper if you’re in the Jazz lane.  This is also a GREAT chune to add to your Quiet Storm style mixed CD for Lover’s.  Showing musical maturity and dexterity, Raging Fyah knocks this song out the park!

Fast Fact:  So good is the riddim for “World Crisis,” Richie Spice performed on it and made the song “Black Woman.”  He included the chune on his album Book of Job!

 



 

Kirsten Olivia Confronts "Mr. Opinionated!"

Her voice is clear, strong and the elephant in the room that you can’t ignore!  She is Kirsten Olivia and today she’s performing a song called “Mr. Opinionated!”  Combining elements of Jazz, R&B, Blues and a dash of Rock n Roll, Kirsten’s voice carries like the New York Philharmonic performing at The Lincoln Centre – not a note, riff, oh or ah is missed!  

In her performance, Kirsten addresses the naysayers by saying outright “don’t try to break me, you’re not my teacher,” and while this is being sung, the hammer of the bass drum is the only instrument to be heard as if to replicate the action of a fist being pounded.  Oh yes, Kirsten has our attention! 

Her brilliance continues with runs that are mild, yet warning the ‘haters’ as if to say ‘this is the ONE time imma talk to you about this ish – back off!’  She is beating down doors and breaking down barriers with every note she sings.  Kirstens voice, and the musical production work to the point that, she is an artist you want to see perform live.
