Love and Devotion Riddim from Madd Spider Productions!

Around the world, people of the Christian faith are calling today Good Friday.  In the same manner, people who listen to, play and interact with Reggae, also call today Good Friday because today is the day Madd Spider Productions has released the Love and Devotion Riddim.

Featuring artists with the sweetest voices, Froggy and Taranchyla get the formula for this riddim right as they capture the essence of the 80’s when vocalists really had to be vocalists to shine on a riddim.

Named after the song “Love and Devotion” by Leilani the riddim is 100% UK Lover’s Rock and is in keeping with the highest standard set by Sly & Robbie, Peckings (Treasure Isle) and Stingray Records – the riddim is that, I repeat THAT good.

I spoke to Froggy MaddSquad about the making of this riddim, and he said it was really special to him because “we want to give back to the people who have supported us, and also honor the sweetness of Reggae and Lover’s Rock.”  Taranchyla also adds:  “if this doesn’t make the people dance, I don’t know what will!”

Call for Applications - Being Black in Montreal!

For the 10^th anniversary of the Montreal International Black Film Festival being held from September 23 to 28, 2014, the Fabienne Colas Foundation is launching a call for applications for its brand new program “Youth and Diversity”.

This program offers professional mentorship in the audiovisual production of a short film to 10 young and promising filmmakers from the Black Communities. They will be guided through the many steps in audiovisual production (screenwriting, directing, editing, post-production, etc.), and will create a documentary short (maximum 5 minutes). This process will be carried out under the professional tutelage of an industry professional with professional equipment. Their final work will be screened at a special event of the 10^th Montreal International Black Film Festival.

For this first year, the Program will run with the theme of “Being Black in Montreal.” Filmmakers will address the issue of social integration of people from black communities in Montreal through film.

The program addresses young Montrealers between 18 and 28, who are from black communities and have a passion for cinema. Potential candidates have a dream to work in the audiovisual field but have not yet had the opportunity, due to social, economic and/or cultural reasons. The deadline for submission is May 11, 2014 through www.montrealblackfilm.com.

This new program is created by the Fabienne Colas Foundation in collaboration with INIS (Institut de l’Image et du Son) and Groupe Pimiento, with Henri Pardo as the artistic director and with the support of several community organizations.

The death of a loved one is never an easy topic to discuss or think about.  In fact, grief councilors say that it is not unusual for people who have experienced loss to be silent and non-communicative as they deal with their feelings.

Dancehall sensation Patexx has penned and recorded a new Dancehall single entitled “Pass and Gone” which deals with the topic from the perspective of a friend looking back at the life of the person who passed.  The DJ sing-jay’s:  “inna life and death you ah mih charge / Outta nuff likkle tings weh yuh draw me / yuh ah real linky yuh ah mih parie / so ah yur memories me ah carry / lighters in the air if you miss yuh friend ….” 

Named a member of Alliance Next Generation, Patexx has released several notable singles under the guidance of the 5 Star General, Bounty Killer.   Produced by Square Wan, you will appreciate the songs piano intro and (electronic) 21 gun salute.  You will also appreciate the clap riff.
