“Every year we look to celebrate Caribbean music and this year is no different. We decided to carve out an era, which so many of us love and reminisce on all the time. This era was ground breaking for dancehall and reggae music in many ways and that is the 90s era. We had some of our biggest artist in dancehall during the 90s era many of them still reign today. Therefore, we decided to pay homage to 90s dancehall, with some of the hit makers of them time. Not to mention for the first time in America The Emperor Shabba Ranks and Don DaDa Super Cat will be sharing the same stage in the United States” says Steve ‘Jabba’ Beckford co-promoter of Best of the Best.

As one of the premier concerts for dancehall and reggae music outside of Jamaica, and celebrating their 13th anniversary, on Monday March 25th Best of the Best Music Concert made their first artist line up announcement. The lineup reflects a 90s theme with some of the newest sensation in dancehall like Noah Powa who had a stellar 2018. Noah Powa, who for many is known as a selector has embarked on a musical career, which is garnering a new fanbase with his relatable hits like, ‘Keep the Same Energy’, ‘Feel it’ and his recent collaboration with Grammy Award winner Shaggy ‘Money Up’.  Performing on the Best of the Best stage as an artist for the first time Noah Powa is definitely pleased with his career and acknowledgement by the promoters and fans. “I have received a tremendous outpour of love and excitement from my fans since the announcement, and persons are messaging me letting me know they are looking forward to see my performance. The rareness of having all these acts on one concert bill, is something many fans are excited about and looking forward to. “I recall living in Jamaica during the 90s and the stage show vibes were always so energetic and full of entertainment. An artist like Frisco Kid, who is still one of my favorite artist from that era, had so many hits from he enter the stage, I am looking forward to this show. Not to mention the Emperor and the Don DaDa Supercat on the same stage, history” says Alecia McKintosh of Tampa, Florida.

With another artist lineup slated for late April, Best of the Best promoters are pleased with the initial response to their announcement.  “For the past few months the Best of the Best office has received numerous emails and messages from patrons, many of whom purchased their early bird tickets without even knowing the lineup. Raging Fyah - Better Tomorrow | Official Music Video

Grammy nominated Raging Fyah has debuted their brand new video for “Better Tomorrow” today on premier music website Relix. The single will be released on Friday March 29th and will be included on their upcoming album soon to be revealed.

Raging Fyah stays true to their roots rock reggae sound with this brand-new song. “Better Tomorrow” is a lyrically powerful song that gives the message of building a bridge instead of creating a wall, serving as a literal and figurative metaphor for one love and unity. In a politically divided time, Raging Fyah shows us that coming together is the answer and division will only tear us apart.

Directed by Dubee of Upsetta, the video wanted to portray images of current events around the world and what should be done to make things better. “We wanted the video to connect to all kinds of people regardless of race, age and background,” said band member Pele. “We think the director did a good job at capturing the power of human connection,” he continued.

“Better Tomorrow” is such an important song in this political climate,” said band member Demar. “We know there is a lot to be done and we just want to do our small part by spreading the message of unity to the world,” he concluded.

Upcoming tour dates for Raging Fyah will be announced soon.

You Can't Own My Success!

My Random Sunday Thought...

There is a common misperception that people ‘owe’ other people and it’s a misconception that must stop.  Here’s how the misconception starts: “if it wasn’t for me, Joe Public wouldn’t have met Jane Public and get his big break.”  Sound familiar?

First and foremost, God and the Universe work in tandem to make sure a shared agreement plays out.  This means, some of career happenings happen, not because of the ‘owners’ but because it is a Universal plan.

Second, we are here at Gods design.  This means that our actions are a part of his overall plans, so how can any one person say “if it wasn’t for ‘me’ Joe Public wouldn’t get where he is?”  How about the perception be changed to ‘one way or another Joe Public is going to succeed because he’s been blessed with that spirit?!’

I make note that there are many people who collectively contribute to our success.  How about we start with Mom and Dad who birthed us?  Teachers who put in extra effort to make sure we learned?  Coaches and mentors who gave us extra encouragement; and oh, the sleepless nights that we stayed up preparing for the future we knew was sure to come … which landed on the desk of Mr. or Mrs. Important person at XYZ Company who put us on.  If the talent was developed before hand, would they even have something to try to ‘own?’

People who are musicians, players of instruments and who sing at center stage are especially subjected to this non-sense way of warped thinking.  If it’s not the vocal coach it’s the producer; if it’s not the producer it’s the concert promoter and if it’s not the concert promoter then for sure it’s the radio jock who played the song for his 5.2 billion listeners why success is at your door.

Just in case there’s a person in your life who won’t stop with the ‘because of me’ rhetoric, just understand that your success is not tied to one person.  Your success is tied to you being daring enough to take risks and chances in places that other people were not willing to go.

You can own a car, a house and a bank account but you cannot own my success!  Go easy!

Reggaenometrist's Tanto Metro & Devonte!

Both having had a successful solo career since the 90’s, TANTO METRO & DEVONTE have reached the highest places on the mainstream charts with songs like ‘Everyone Falls in Love’, ‘Say Whoee’ or ‘Give It To Her’ in the early 2000’s. Both artists represent a major pioneering force of the dancehall movement and have been creating hits for over two decades now.  Along with their humble approach, the striking contrast of Devonte's silky smooth tenor and Tanto Metro's hard-hitting swaggering rhymes was the magic recipe for creating all those hits.

Today, the veteran hit makers continue to add magic to the music industry with their usual mixture of melodic hooks, humorous lines and catchy rhythms. They have now released their fifth studio album ‘Reggaenometrist’, which features songs on classic riddims like ‘Smoke Train’ on the M16 riddim or ‘Next Time’ on the African Beat riddim. They also line up a series of serious party bangers like ‘Love Song’ or ‘Love Will Make You’. Finally they teamed up with other artists to deliver energetic three-the-hard-way songs like ‘Obey’ featuring the Fireman Capleton, ‘Pretty City’ featuring young talent Million Stylez, and ‘Live as One’ featuring Grammy award winner Mykal Rose.

For this fifth studio album, the duo teamed up with producers Lynford ‘Fatta’ Marshall & Richard ‘Bobo’ Bell for 29 West Production/Fat Eyes Productions (Except LIVE AS ONE which was produced by Paul "Patchy" Wright of Island Yard Productions) – The album is being distributed by VPal Music.

Jah9 - Heaven (Ready Fi Di Feeling) | Official Music Video

Deeply mystical, Jah9 has emerged from a chrysalis of poetry, dub and spirit to become a powerful feminine energy within a universal grassroots movement of consciousness.

Inspired by the open spaces in the instrumental dub 1970’s Jamaican roots music, Jah9 sings with a voice that belies the dimensions of her physical body, from a soul much older than its current vessel; “reminiscent of that darly operatic wailer for truth and justice, Nina Simone.”  Her philosophy – profoundly spiritual, and her style – Jazz on Dub.

THE BENTWAY Announces Spring / Summer 2019 Programming “COMMUNITAS”

The Bentway is excited to launch the Spring / Summer 2019 Season of programming, informed by the theme Communitas: The Spirit of Community! Through the lens of culture and recreation, The Bentway explores Toronto’s changing landscape as well as opportunities to unite diverse communities through shared experiences.

Communitas brings together artists, urbanists, innovators, and community activators within the connective space of The Bentway to engage in radical experiments in collaboration, co-creation, and cohabitation: all of which are key to the future of Toronto.

“Does the sharing of spaces, assets and rituals lead to greater connection between people? What happens when individual needs and identities conflict with the collective?”asks Director of Programming, Ilana Altman (recently appointed with David Carey as Co-Executive Director of The Bentway). “With the theme of “Communitas” we wanted to explore some of the key questions that emerge from our increasingly populated urban landscapes. Who and what are considered part of the “community” is often hotly-contested based on identity and status, regional and personal politics, and ever-evolving civic histories.”

The Bentway’s Spring / Summer 2019 Season kicks off on Saturday, May 11, 2019 withNew Monuments for New Cities, a joint art exhibition with five members of the High Line Network—a group of 19 North American infrastructure reuse projects. The Bentway is the only Canadian partner and will open the exhibition on May 11 with Toronto’s first-ever Monuments Summit. The full exhibition of New Monuments for New Cities runs May 11 – August 30.

The Monuments Summit (May 11) is a day-long public event that will introduce the public to the New Monuments exhibition, the contributing artists from several participating cities, and the issues the exhibition raises. The day will be structured around a series of conversations and participatory activities asking the public to reflect on the same set of questions posed to the artists, and to engage in a collective dialogue about issues of representation, civic histories and monumentality.

Morgan Heritage and Patoranking say "Pay Attention!"

GRAMMY award winning super Reggae group keeps making history, and this time they’re doing it in Kenya, Africa!

The billboard chart topping group known for hits “Down By The River,” “She’s Still Loving Me” and “Psalms 23” featuring Buju Banton, teams with Nigerian star and sensation Patoranking with a song that is an ode to the ladies!

Under the philosophy of French philosopher and political activist Simone Weil who once said “attention is the rarest and purest form of generosity,” the comined musical forces deliver the song “Pay Attention.”  The song is the official second single from the highly anticipated Spring 2019 new Morgan Heritage album. "We’ve been working on the new album for almost 2 years and since setting   up our roots in Kenya, we long looked forward to filming a music video there and knew it
would take place on this new album. We didn’t know it would be for a song so emotional that speaks to men and women around the world, who have been through one thing or the next trying to maintain a healthy relationship. Relationship health can easily be lost because we simply didn’t Pay Attention” Mojo Morgan explained, with Gramps Morgan chiming in "Patoranking has been an artist we’ve been following and have loved the progress he’s made in his career over the last 5 years. So while vibing to the track, we knew Pato was the perfect fit. As the songs captures the perfect blend between dancehall music from Jamaica and the Afro-beat sounds from Africa taking the world by storm.”

An all around labor of love, all artists involved gained worldwide success on their own merit, and genuinely enjoy being representatives of each others country, and musical genres.  "It’s truly an honor when we can work with our peers in the music industry around the world and see their professionally first hand. Though he has become a giant of an artist in Nigeria, Pato is extremely humble and while filming the video in Nairobi, Kenya it would seem like we knew each other for years by the way we clicked. We are looking forward to sharing more music from our new album coming later this Spring and hope the world will love the musical journey we will be taking our fans on. Jah Bless!" - Peetah Morgan

Filmed in Nairobi and Masai Mara, Kenya, the video is giving viewers an insight into Brand Kenya
and the Nairobi Experience. Directed by Jordan Hoechlin and Mojo Morgan with production for the video made possible by CTBC Music Group, Island Vibes Coconut Rum, Bonfire Adventures, Onyx Lounge, Tribe Hotel, J Wonder 21, Eden Mara Camp, Village Market, Mario Tours and Roya Entertainment, "Pay Attention" featured four elegant timeless beautiful models provided by an agency owned by supermodel by Ajuma Nasenyana.

Roots - Rock- Reggae - Better Tomorrow with Raging Fyah!

If you're a roots, rock, Reggae fan, you are going to love the new release from Reggae group Raging Fyah!

“Better Tomorrow” is the second single following up the 2016 Grammy nominated album ‘Everlasting,’ and the first Raging Fyah release with new lead singer Journey.  Raging Fyah stays true to their sound in this brand-new song.

Focused on building a bridge instead of creating a wall, the song is literally and figuratively a metaphor for one love and unity.  In a politically divided time, and with the need for all people to be recognized, respected and appreciated, Raging Fyah shows us that love and unity is the answer and division will only tear us apart.

Our new political agenda is to have a better tomorrow where we all live beautifully!  Make sure you request this song from your favorite DJ!  Sources tell me the single will be available on social media (streaming platforms) soon!

This easy groove single features Busy’s trademarked lyrical flow, and a few musical references that will bring a smile to your face.  Remember “Limb by Limb” by Cutty Ranks?  Busy masterfully weaves the memorable song as he sing-jays “wave them off / gyal shake up yuh body / love how yuh wine cause yuh full of the energy ….”

Produced by Busy Signal for Turf Music Entertainment, you can be sure that the ladies will be moving when you select this chune … Busy has a track record of doing this!  Consider this to be the ‘warm-up’ to Busy’s ‘Ladies Season!’

Beckford Music Group Presents: Nemo Dilinga x F.A.M – Wine Pon Mi!

Brooklyn, NY is the kind of borough where you have to sound really good for people to give you a minute of their time, much less a slot on their playlist.  Collaborations are a dime a dozen, but the right collab will make the right people nod their heads and recommend you to others.  This is the case with Nemo Dilinga and F.A.M (Forever After Money) who have merged Dancehall and Trap on their single “Wine Pon Mi.”

Both F.A.M and Nemo Dilinga happened to be in the studio in Brooklyn and got to talking, which led to story telling in which F.A.M shared a scenario that happened to him.  Nemo and the engineer said “that sounds like a song,” so F.A.M went into the booth and told the story.  Nemo added authentic Jamaican vibes which explains why ladies have a weakness for Caribbean men, and voila, in comes the musical ting called “Wine Pon Mi.”

Seducing chick lyrically, F.A.M says: “girl I love the way you wine pon me / I see you got your eyes on me / I know you wanna ride with me / bun a spliff and get high with me / you can touch the sky with me / you can live and die with me ….”  With the tempo switch up, Nemo Dilinga says: “you know me / prefer the BD / no matta / still have she sweating heavy / she never ready fih style weh me unleash / under lock and key like Jet Li ….”

Musically, the track is Trap / R&B and can easily be played between sets and is perfect for mixtapes.  Both artists appear courtesy of newly formed Beckford Music Group who is based in Brooklyn.  Connect with the artists on the Gram:  @x__fam__x | @nemo_dilinga
