Congrats to Exco Levi and Kabaka Pyramid - 2014 Juno Award Winners for Best Reggae Recording!

2014 continues to be an outstanding year for Exco Levi who this evening, March 29th, 2014 made Canadian history where Reggae is concerned by winning the 2014 Reggae Recording of the Year category, marking 3 consecutive wins.

The only artist to win 3 back to back Juno Awards (the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy) for Best Reggae Recording, this accomplishment is shared by his co-performer, Kabaka Pyramid, and producer, Silly Walks Discotheque.  The Awards, held in Winnipeg, Canada, is the 44th annual production which recognizes the best Canadian talent in a wide range of genres.  Exco’s acceptance speech thanked all who were involved in the songs production, and thanked the great country of Canada who helped him realize his dream of being a recording artist.

Reaction from the international community has been swift as Manager and producer Donovan Germaine, label mate Busy Signal, and backing sound system Rootsman Sound have all expressed congratulatory praise on the win.  Donovan Germaine says “I am very proud of Exco.  He is making good music which the people love … the sky is the limit.”

Exco just completed a West Coast tour of the United States, and will be on tour in Europe in April, 2014.  The artist recently released “Cali Farmer” and “Wadada” which are Dubwise and available for download at the links below.

Lesson from my Granny...

By example, my Grandmother has been my greatest financial adviser.  Though she was married to my Grandfather who held a well respected and well paying job, Granny always had her own.  Living in the most rural part of Trinidad where running water, electricity and certain needs were scarce, Granny made sure that she fulfilled the needs of local residents.  As one of the few people who had a refrigerator and freezer, she sold ice.  Having one of the biggest lime trees, she sold lime, having corn fields, she sold corn, having chickens, she sold eggs, and even sold friend chicken on the weekends.  As she made her sales (ranging from $0.25 to $1.00), she stored her money in a box … let’s call it a shoe box.  At the end of the week, she gave her grand kids $0.25 for keeping her supplies organized and for doing general work to assist with her business.  At the end of the week Granny had a handsome profit.  By the end of the year, Granny’s shoe box was extremely healthy, causing her to be independent while being married to Granddad.

Ladies, whatever resources you have around you, combine them with the talents that you have been blessed with and build your financial empire and don’t be shy about it either.

I have been blessed to have incredible women in my life who have set examples that I follow to this day.  I have recently met some phenomenal women who have inspired me using their talents being Dr. Cheryl Hill, Kay Cunningham, Song River, Jenn Menn, Tilsa Wright and so many others.

If you are in Silver Springs Maryland (March 29th, 2014), make sure you attend the Marketplace Meeting conference hosted by Dr. Cheryl Hill.  This event will positively change your life, and will help you synchronize all of the loose ends around you, and channel them in to one direction to make you unstoppable!  I have never given bad advice, and I won’t start now.  Trust me … Dr. Hill will unlock your doors!  #LoveYou!

T.O.K.

The inaugural Blue Mountain Festival and the Saint International Fashion Face of the Caribbean Model Competition were the perfect kick offs to their hectic 2014 schedule which includes the release of their 5th studio album, numerous singles plus international and island wide performances.  They have been working hard in the studio with some of the best producers in the industry and those efforts will see the release of singles and videos for “Boom Boom” produced by Black Chiney, “Shuub Out” produced by Birchill Records, “Get Wild” produced by Coppershot, “Diamond and Gold” produced by DJ Frass and “Now That We Found Love” which is a tribute to the late Bunny Rugs of Third World.  Major Lazor is also set to release a new T.O.K. single very soon.  Stay Tuned!

HOTTT On TV … Dear Jesus!

How many times have you been caught in a situation that you regret being in, and the first thing you say is ‘dear Jesus?!’

You wish the Almighty would come down from heaven on high and help you out of whatever situation you are in, but you know that is not going to happen so you resort to prayers, chants, and the listening ear of a ‘friend’ who can’t wait to leak your business the moment they get the chance!

If that describes your situation, or if you like the plot just laid out, you are going to LOVE the television series Dear Jesus!

Available for view on YouTube, the series is now in its 3rd season and is centered around the lead character, Mercedes who is a young fashion writer.  In season 1 we learn that she is unceremoniously fired from her job, and she gets home (after being fired), she finds her boyfriend and best friend in bed together.  We, the viewing audience say the words for her … Dear Jesus!

Picking things up in season 3, Mercedes is pregnant, not for her boyfriend, but for another dude from around the way … Oops!

You have got to watch this series.  I promise you won’t be disappointed!  Connect with the crew on Twitter >>> @DearJesusTV and via Facebook >>> www.Facebook.com/DearJesusTV
